No more than 2 hours from Marrakech is a hidden climbing treasure called Zuhelika. Zuhelika is tucked away behind a small and quiet village that shares the same name. A relatively new climbing venue to Morocco, Zuhelika has a lot of fun climbing to offer to both beginners and experienced climbers. Due to it’s proximity to Marrakech, the beautiful landscape, and the great climbing, Zuhelika has become one of Climb Morocco’s favorite climbing spots in Morocco.

Zuhelika is a developing climbing area with almost 30 single pitch sport climbing routes, four of which lead up to a second bolted pitch. The climbs range from 4 to around 6b/6b+ French grade (5.7 – 5.11a). The bolting is very generous and close together and the anchors are solid consisting of a chain and rap ring. The routes are high, although most climbs can be climbed with a 60 meter rope. But, like many climbing locations in Morocco, it is encouraged to bring along a 70 meter rope or at least have two ropes in case the pitch requires a rope longer than 60 meters. There is also a lot of potential for Trad climbing with some great crack climb options and protectable routes. Also, there are some great boulders to project below the main wall, alongside the river, and on top of the easy scramble across the river.

The best way to access the climbing area is to drive or hike through the village and park by the river after the village after entering the climbing area. From there you will want to walk across the river and start climbing. The villagers of Zuhelika are very nice, friendly, and hospitable towards climbers. We encourage climbers in Zuhelika to show respect and friendliness to the villagers and to the climbing location itself. Please remember to carry out your trash and remember to leave no trace. The water in the river near the wall comes from a spring and there is a well located at the entrance of the crag that is still used. Zuhelika is a beautiful climbing location with lots of great climbs and potential for future development.

Popular Routes

Route Description Type Difficulty
AdadaAs a whole, Adada is a relatively easy climb but prepare yourself for the super challenging crux where you have to commit to pulling through a tricky roof. Probably the hardest single move in Zuhelika.Single-Pitch Sport6b+
Badaboum An interesting climb featuring two unique styles of climbing. First, work through a cruxy crack section looking for good finger jams. Right after you finish the crack section, get ready for a delicate slab section featuring slopers below the anchors. Two styles, too fun!Single-Pitch Sport6a+
No NameOne climb to the right of Salut L’artiste, two to the left of ECI is the hardest and most sustained climb in Zuhelika. This climb is a lot of fun and really challenges the forearms and the mind! The beginning section is blocky and straight forward but as you start moving to the right, get ready to work hard and have fun. One of our favorites for sure!Single-Pitch Sport6c
